Title: Computer/Network Technologist III
I am responsible for maintaining computing and networking
services at the Institute for Crustal Studies.
I specialize in systems administration of the UNIX (Sun Solaris) boxes and maintain Macintosh desktop systems as well.
I also maintain the Institute's primary website
(http://www.crustal.ucsb.edu) as well as many of the subsidiary research sites.
Recently I have been doing some interesting work using PHP and MySQL to create
web interfaces to databases.
1986-1992 In my previous position, also here at ICS, I helped install, maintain and automate a digital seismic network in Parkfield, California. That position gave me my start in systems administration and programming.
1980-1986 I worked in the seismic oil exploration industry for five and a half years as an observer. This experience gave me a sound base in logistical planning, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting techniques.
I chose to continue working full time while I continued my education. That is the reason that my education milestone dates are so far apart.
My old class schedules from UCSB (and a few from SBCC)
I have quite a bit of experience with the following languages (or utilities):
C, C++, Perl, sh, csh, HTML, CSS, PHP, awk, Java, Tcl/Tk, CGI, PostScript and PDF.
I am familiar with:
MySQL (SQL), FORTRAN, Pascal, assembly code and probably a few other languages.

This was the first Java Applet that I ever wrote. Its here because I wanted to keep it around somewhere.
